Why REST API Security Scanner
Broken Object Level Authorization sits at the top of the OWASP API Security Top 10, and for good reason - it's the natural failure mode of REST design. An endpoint like /api/orders/1042 is simple to build and simple to get wrong: it's easy to check that the requester is authenticated without also checking that they actually own order 1042, and incrementing the ID is all it takes to read someone else's data.
Excessive data exposure is the same problem from a different angle. Many APIs return the full database object and rely on the frontend to only display the fields it needs - which means every field the API returns is available to anyone who bypasses the UI and calls the endpoint directly, whether or not the frontend ever shows it.
Rate limiting and GraphQL introspection round out the most common real-world findings: missing rate limits turn a login or password-reset endpoint into a brute-force target, and introspection left enabled in production hands over the entire schema - every type, field, and mutation the API supports - to anyone who asks for it.
